Optical Background Remover Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated: September 21, 2026

1. About this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Optical Background Remover (the “App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, retains, and protects information when a Shopify merchant installs or uses the App. It also explains the choices available to merchants and their customers.

For personal information that we process to provide the App, we act as a service provider or processor on behalf of the merchant. The merchant remains responsible for its own privacy notices and for deciding how customer information is used in its store.

2. Information we collect

Shop and account information. When the App is installed or used, we may receive the Shopify store domain, store and account identifiers, merchant name, business email address, locale, installation and authorization details, and the access token needed to connect the App to Shopify.

Product and image information. To provide background removal and image preparation, we process only the product records and images selected by the merchant, together with related identifiers and processing instructions. Depending on how the merchant uses the App, a product image may incidentally contain personal information.

Usage and support information. We collect processing status, service type, credit usage, timestamps, error and performance information, and security logs. If a merchant contacts support, we collect the name, email address, message, and any job identifier or other information included in the request.

We do not intentionally collect payment card details, and we do not need customer order, payment, or checkout information to remove image backgrounds.

3. How we use information

We use information to install, authenticate, operate, maintain, and secure the App; process the images selected by the merchant; return processed results; maintain usage and credit records; diagnose errors; prevent fraud or misuse; provide support; send service-related communications; comply with legal obligations; and improve the reliability of the service using aggregated or de-identified statistics.

We do not sell personal information, use merchant or customer images for advertising, or use uploaded images to train artificial intelligence models.

4. Image processing and service providers

Selected images are transmitted securely to our image-processing infrastructure solely to perform the operation requested by the merchant. Source images are processed in memory and are not retained by us after the response is returned. Processed image bytes are returned directly to the merchant. Our job records retain operational metadata, not copies of the image.

We use service providers to host the App and database, process images, monitor security and reliability, and deliver support. These providers may process information only to perform services for us and are subject to contractual and security obligations. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transaction subject to appropriate safeguards.

5. Legal bases and international transfers

Where applicable, we process personal information because it is necessary to perform our agreement with the merchant, to comply with legal obligations, or for legitimate interests such as operating, securing, supporting, and improving the App. Where consent is legally required, information is processed on that basis and consent may be withdrawn.

Our providers may process information outside the merchant’s country. When required, we use recognized safeguards for international transfers, such as contractual protections, and take steps designed to keep information protected wherever it is processed.

6. Retention and deletion

Uploaded source images and generated image bytes are not retained by us after processing completes. Operational job metadata is kept while the merchant account is active for usage history, credit accounting, support, security, and abuse prevention. Support records are kept while needed to resolve and document requests. We may retain limited records longer when required by law, to resolve disputes, prevent fraud, or enforce agreements.

When the App is uninstalled, we stop accessing the store through the App. We delete or de-identify shop-associated personal information after receiving Shopify’s shop redaction request, unless law requires us to retain specific records. Backups, where used, age out according to their normal secure rotation cycle.

7. Merchant and customer privacy rights

Depending on location, individuals may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal information, withdraw consent, and appeal or complain to a data-protection authority. These rights may be subject to legal exceptions.

Customers should first contact the Shopify merchant that controls their information. Merchants can submit Shopify privacy requests or contact us through the support form with the subject “Privacy request.” We will verify and respond to valid requests within the period required by applicable law. We honor Shopify’s mandatory customer data request, customer redaction, and shop redaction processes.

For California residents, we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising applicable privacy rights.

8. Security and cookies

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encrypted transport, access controls, hashed credentials where applicable, and restricted administrative access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Our standalone account dashboard uses a strictly necessary, HTTP-only session cookie to keep users signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies in the App. Shopify may use cookies and similar technologies under Shopify’s own policies when the App runs within Shopify.

9. Children, changes, and contact

The App is a business service and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.

We may update this policy to reflect changes to the App, law, or our practices. We will post the revised policy here, update the effective date, and provide additional notice when required.

For questions or privacy requests, use our public Contact & Support page. Include the store domain and the subject “Privacy request,” but do not send passwords, access tokens, or sensitive image files.
